better breathing

Learn to recognise your breathing habits, unblock your nose, abort an asthma attack early, sleep through the night, exercise effectively, overcome shortness of breath and reduce or eliminate episodes of breathing difficulties.

In our clinic we assess your breathing and functional posture in relation to your lifestyle, dental health and nutritional habits. Where desirable we work in conjunction with your GP, dentist, dietician, respiratory specialist or any health care provider you nominate.

Hay Fever & allergies

Blocked nose, rhinitis, infected sinuses, headaches, facial pain, swollen itchy eyes, shortness of breath, exhaustion, disrupted sleep or allergic reactions can spoil a day’s outing.

If you suffer from allergies, you probably have adopted avoidance behaviours: you avoid certain foods, stay indoors in spring, you are on  alert, you delegate cutting the grass to somebody else, and before you know it your life is dictated by your triggers and the anti-hystamine.

This is stressful and weakens your immune system even more.

The function of your nose is to filter, moisten and warm the air you take in. This encourages nitrous oxide production in your nose, which acts like an antiseptic in your sinuses and reduces mucus production. Having less mucus in your sinuses reduces the breeding ground for germs.

SMART Breathing retraining can help you unblock your nose and learn how to keep it open. Through correct breathing you will strengthen your immune system and be less susceptible to triggers.

We provide you with evidence-based breathing exercises and can assist you with Bowen Therapy to facilitate sinus drainage and support the lymphatic and immune system.
Regain your sense of smell and taste.

Asthma

Diabetes

Fighting for your breath? Feeling like you're suffocating from the inside? Irritating consistent coughing, tight chest or maybe just constantly exhausted?

Many asthma sufferers report a sense of fear, anxiety and lack of control. Do you?

Asthma is not one disease – inflammation of the airways – it is a complex array of different problems that manifest in different symptoms. Early treatment of an acute attack and preventative medication in chronic cases are still the norm in asthma treatment.

Whilst there is still no cure for asthma, SMART Breathing retraining is a step towards personalised medicine. It allows you to stabilise safely on the lowest possible dosage determined by your GP, and in some cases even come off medication permanently or seasonally.

You will learn to recognise your personal signs of early deterioration of breathing and be able to use appropriate breathing exercises to overcome the fear, gain control and normalise your breathing. You will learn how and when to integrate it with your asthma action plan developed for you by your doctor and how to step it back down safely.

If you feel short of breath or are unfit you may not be motivated to exercise or even be physically active.

Whilst tranquillity and rest are important in the management of diabetes, a brisk walk can also help stress reduction.

Retraining your breathing pattern can help you be more active, find pleasure in exercising, improve your sleep, and be calmer.

SMART Breathing helps you:
  • recognise poor breathing habits
  • improve the volume, rate and depth of breath
  • learn how to recover after activity, and
  • how to reduce the intensity and duration of your stress response in difficult situations.

Diabetes management is a team effort that starts with you.

Join your GP, specialist, dentist, exercise physiologist, dietician and respiratory educator and make exercising a pleasure once again.
